Information about chanterelles and mushrooms
Chanterelles and mushrooms are both popular types of mushrooms that are also often used as an ingredient in tarte flambée:
Chanterelles:
- Chanterelles are small, yellow-orange mushrooms with an intense, nutty aroma.
- They are native to Europe and North America and mostly grow in deciduous forests.
- Chanterelles contain many important nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and fiber.
- They are often fried or used in various sauces and soups.
- Chanterelles have a characteristic, intense flavor that combines well with other savory ingredients such as onions, garlic or bacon.
Mushrooms:
- Button mushrooms, also known as white mushrooms, are the most widely grown and consumed mushrooms worldwide.
- They have a white, conical cap and a mild, slightly nutty taste.
- Mushrooms are usually grown in special mushroom farms.
- They are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber and contain little fat and calories.
- Mushrooms can be eaten raw in salads, grilled, fried, boiled or used in sauces.
Both mushroom varieties are delicious, versatile, and offer a great way to add flavor to dishes. Their qualities are particularly evident on tarte flambée. In Alsace, this tarte flambée variation is usually called "Forestiere."
